Statistical analysis for a national disability inclusion study
The statistical analysis behind a national study on the cost of exclusion among persons with disabilities, turning a large dataset into evidence for policy.
· Governance · September 2025
The challenge
A global development institution needed to understand the cost of exclusion among persons with disabilities across the country. The data had been gathered; the question was what it actually showed. A dataset of that size and spread says very little until it is cleaned, structured and interrogated with the right methods.
The institution needed analysis it could stand behind in a policy conversation: findings that were statistically sound, clearly explained, and defensible under scrutiny, rather than a spreadsheet of raw figures open to interpretation.
The approach
The analysis was built in Stata, from cleaning and validation through to the statistical work itself. The dataset was prepared carefully, because findings are only as trustworthy as the data underneath them, then analysed to surface the patterns that mattered for policy.
The result was a set of clear findings, each traceable back to the data and the method that produced it. The emphasis throughout was on evidence a decision maker could present and defend, not on volume of output.
What was built
- A cleaned, validated and analysis-ready national dataset
- Statistical analysis in Stata, appropriate to the questions being asked
- Clear findings on the cost of exclusion, each traceable to method and data
- Analysis framed to inform national policy dialogue on inclusive development
